How To Be More Productive and Benefits to Increasing Your Productivity

With all the electronics and easy access, we have today, staying focused on work without any distractions is much harder to accomplish. Being productive is not always easy, but it is crucial to success. Especially when you’re trying to concentrate on something that is tedious or difficult.

Productivity is important in life because you get more done with less time. Conveying that you can finish hard, important tasks and still have time for more enjoyable things like hobbies or social activities.

Low productivity and procrastination oftentimes go hand and hand.

Having a long or grueling to-do list can be daunting. Which leads us to make up excuses or do less important things while continually putting off the major stuff. I am 100% guilty of being a procrastinator and I know this^ is all too familiar for a lot of other people as well.

Tips

  • LIMIT DISTRACTIONS: This is another way of saying STOP PROCRASTINATING. Limit your distractions to decrease the chances of you trying to make excuses.
  • TAKE MORE BREAKS: Working nonstop on something can be overwhelming, exhausting, or simply cause you not to be effective because you’re burning yourself out. Taking a break here or there will give you a chance to refresh and recharge which will result in better efficiency.
  • MINIMIZE YOUR TO-DO LIST: Attempting to get done as much as you can during the day should not always be your goal. Sometimes a “less is more approach” will help you prioritize and manage your time better.
  • PRIORITIZE: Starting with the harder tasks first will help increase your productivity. Sometimes without prioritizing, we’ll procrastinate by doing a bunch of small unimportant things, using the excuse of “at least I’m doing something”. This leads to tiring ourselves out or wasting time, then eventually you end up not doing the important things.
  • MANAGE YOUR TIME: Along with prioritizing tasks, managing your time will help increase your productivity. You don’t necessarily have to time out every single part of your day, but having a timeframe for things may help further your progress. *EX: If you’re a social media person who constantly checks their notifications, implement some SM time slots throughout your day
productive - desk - laptop - notes
  • MANAGE YOUR ENERGY: If you are completely exhausted, it does not matter how much time you have, you won’t be able to efficiently and accurately get anything done. Getting enough sleep and handling the difficult tasks earlier in the day, are two things you can do to manage your energy.
  • WAKE UP EARLY: There have been plenty of studies that have shown that waking up early can be very beneficial to your lifestyle, which is why morning routines are encouraged. Starting your day with a little me-time and catering to your health (mental, physical, emotional, and/or spiritual) will give you the fuel to be more productive throughout the day.
  • ROUTINES: Having a routine helps find a rhythm and a system that works for you by checking things off your daily to-do list. Healthy, beneficial routines will be one of the biggest ways to increase your productivity. Having a morning and night routine is essential to success.
  • STOP MULTI-TASKING: Now don’t get me wrong, multi-tasking can actually be beneficial in certain situations. However, consistently multi-tasking with any and everything can actually lessen the quality of your work and also lengthen the time it takes to finish something. “quality over quantity”
  • SELF DISCIPLINE: Self-discipline is crucial to productivity and a healthy, successful lifestyle in general. Motivation will not always be there; when it’s not, self-discipline comes in. Saying no is easier said than done, which is why self-discipline is something you should work on improving.
  • LEARN YOUR PATTERNS: Knowing what habits you have and what DOES or DOES NOT work for you is the key to productivity. Do you work better by yourself or in an area with like-minded people? Do you tend to go down the social media rabbit hole when you simply check your email? Recognize your tendencies and cater to your strengths while limiting your weaknesses.
  • RETURN LIST: I don’t know about you, but my mind will come up with random thoughts at the most inopportune time. Having a return list nearby when you’re working or studying will allow you to jot stuff done and then continue to work at ease. Knowing you won’t forget or do it at that moment and end up wasting a ton of time.
  • EDUCATE/PRACTICE: Dedicate some of your free time to furthering your knowledge or abilities. Being more knowledgeable on whatever tasks you are working on, will increase your productivity.

Take it one step at a time, because this may seem simple enough but getting into the habit of being productive can take time. So if you don’t immediately see a drastic change do not be discouraged, stay persistent and figure out what works best for you.

Remember, managing your time to where you finish all the more challenging stuff in the first half of your day, will increase your productivity. Doing this will allow you to accomplish the major things while your brain is still fresh, and then you can plow through all your busy work in the second half of your day, in the end getting more work done. Good luck!
