14 Easy Skin Care Tips for Clear, Healthy, Dewy, Glowing Skin

Do you struggle with finding skin care tips or getting visible results in your current (or non-existent) skin care routine?

Ah acne, the bane of our existence.

I feel like a lot of us have had that moment where you wake up in a good mood, go through the motions of getting ready in the morning, and as soon as you look in the mirror you see a big pimple that decided to pop up overnight.

Maybe you don’t struggle with active acne as much, but the few times you do you are left with huge noticeable acne scars. Or maybe you are one of those people who rarely have any issues at all, but you are here reading this article to make sure it stays that way.

My point is, that we all have different skin types and our experiences vary.

Typically, people struggling with acne or blemishes have skin that is dry, oily, or a combination of the two. Although it affects teenagers the most, it can affect any age group (men/women/children/older adults and even babies).

Acne is a prevalent skin condition that mainly affects the face but can also affect the chest, neck, back, upper arms, and butt.

Below are some skin care tips to help you get on track to clear, healthy, glowy, dewy skin.

Avoid Popping Pimples

  • Pimples have trapped oil, sebum, and bacteria. So if you pop your pimples the released fluid can introduce the surrounding skin to more bacteria resulting in more pimples. Popping pimples not only prolongs the healing process but can also lead to scarring.

Wash Face Daily

  • In most cases, it is recommended that people wash their face 1-2x daily. Depending on your day-to-day activities will determine what is best for you. What can be said for all skin types is ALWAYS wash your face after sweating. Not washing your face after sweating can cause your acne to worsen.

Moisturize

  • Regardless of your skin type (oily/dry/combination), you should always moisturize your skin after your daily face cleanse. Keeping your face moisturized can help regulate sebum production, reduce dryness, and also create a barrier from outside elements to prevent damage and irritation.

Avoid Touching Your Face

  • Touching your face can lead to breakouts due to all the oils, dirt, and bacteria that can be transferred. Touching your face can also lead to clogged pores and skin aggravation.

Always Wear Sunscreen

  • UV rays from the sun can damage the skin which can eventually cause sunburn or dry, leathery, wrinkled, and discolored skin. Sunscreen helps protect the skin and prevent damage from the harmful sun rays. Sunscreen can also prevent the darkening of dark spots and reduce signs of aging and sunspots. Despite what most people think you should ALWAYS wear sunscreen indoors or out and in the sun or rain.

Avoid Hot Water

  • I’m not going to lie, I am 100% guilty of taking boiling hot showers more often than not, but washing your face at this temperature can be really damaging and cause your skin to dry out. Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and nutrients. It can also cause early aging and wrinkling and inflame the tissue. Warm water is the best temperature for facial washing. Hot water can be irritating and cold water is not nearly as effective.

Stay Hydrated

  • Proper skin hydration can help prevent acne. Dry skin can cause an overproduction of oil resulting in acne breakouts. Dry skin is also prone to prominent wrinkles, bacteria, and skin irritation. Staying hydrated can reduce the chance of clogged pores and aid in removing bacteria.

Test Products

  • Always test products before using them on your face, especially if you have sensitive skin. This is something that a lot of people do not do. Testing products could potentially prevent or minimize any skin damage.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

  • Have you heard of that saying “you are what you eat”? In order for the skin to stay healthy, you need to have a healthy diet to consume all the necessary nutrients. Worsening acne can come from trigger foods, so cutting foods out might help keep the skin clear up (a good example is dairy). If you keep track of what you eat and keep track of your breakouts then you may be able to pinpoint your trigger foods.

Dermatologists

  • Minor breakouts should suffice with gentle natural products, but for more severe acne you should see a dermatologist to get medicated products specific to your needs.

Makeup

  • Being consistent with your skincare will not only improve your current issues but will also help prevent problems in the future. A consistent skincare routine helps with acne breakouts, uneven skin tone, skin elasticity, etc.

Research

  • Make sure you do some research relating to your skin type and also about new products before use. Take the time and figure out your skin type so when you go over some general skin care tips like these, you can also search for specific tips for your individual skin type and specific needs.

There are probably other skin care tips I didn’t include in this list, but I hope this at least gets you started! Keep in mind, that your skin won’t just change overnight, skin improvement takes time. Choose products specific to your skin and stay consistent.
